Week 19 Update

Eek! I'm less than a week from halfway there!  It doesn't even seem real.  I wore this dress the other day to work (probably for the last time for awhile from the way it fit, haha) and I couldn't believe the difference from when I wore it at 8 weeks.  The front may not look too different, but from the side it definitely is!

My stomach just keeps growing and growing.  I haven't felt the baby move much this week so I take my bigger belly as a good sign.  I had to deal with some lower back pain earlier this week which was no fun.  I did some research and apparently that's fairly common in the second half of the pregnancy.  I just have to focus on my posture more and hope that it helps.  Other than that I feel great!  I've been working out more consistently and that has been helping me sleep better through the night.  I've had a few nights in the past week where I didn't have to get up until morning to use the bathroom.  I've learned to appreciate the small things, haha.

Liebster Award

Hey friends!  Great news ~ I was nominated for the Liebster Award by the beautiful Anna over at The Beauty Section!  Thanks for the nomination!  It was a delightful surprise! :)  Anna has a blog full of great beauty advice, you guys should give it a look.

The Rules of the Liebster Award:
1. Create a post thanking the person who nominated you and link back to their blog.
2. State 11 interesting facts about yourself.
3. Answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger who nominated you.
4. Create 11 questions for the bloggers you nominate to answer.

11 Interesting Facts About Me

1. I'm the oldest of 3 kids and I have one sister and one brother.

2. I love watching and playing football and last August I tore my ACL playing flag football.  I started this blog because I was bored that I couldn't do anything sports related during my 8 month recovery time.  I made a full recovery and was able to play one full season of flag football before having to take another break due to the pregnancy!

3. I was the valedictorian of my high school class.  I'm kind of a nerd. ;-)

4. I love to read and I wish I had more time for it.  Currently I'm reading the third book in the Game of Thrones series.

5. I'm kind of a tomboy and had terrible fashion sense until I found Pinterest.  It's still unreal sometimes that I have a fashion blog and people actually like my style! Haha.

6. I met my husband playing basketball (he's a foot taller than me).  I could tell he liked me when he started making more of an effort to block my shots and annoy the heck out of me! :)

7. I did pole vault in high school and made it to states and placed 21st!  I miss the adrenaline of it (and track & field in general) sometimes.

8. I have a math degree and worked for 8 years as an actuarial analyst in a consulting capacity (here's a little description of what actuaries do) before switching over to the corporate side just a few weeks ago.  Now I work for an oil and gas company doing compensation analysis.

9. I get cold easily.  I can't stand the AC vents in the car blowing directly on me and I usually keep the temperature at 75 or higher.  If my husband wants the car cooler, I will turn on my seat heater, even if it's summer.  Also, I always have a blanket on hand at work for my lap.  It's kind of nice in that I can tolerate the Houston heat a little easier than most.  I'm hoping my little bun in the oven will start to be my personal heater shortly.

10. I can be a bit of a health freak.  I am all about eating whole foods and avoid processed food as much as I can.  If I could give any health tip, it would be to avoid soy.  It's been touted as a health food, but it is one of the worst things you can put in your body.  One, it's GMO (some people are ok with that, and that's fine, but I try to avoid it - if you don't know what GMO is, feel free to ask me about it) and two, it mimics estrogen and estrogen stores fat in our cells (hence the reason women have higher body fat than men and put weight on easier).  It can also mess up our hormonal balance in general.  Soy is prevalent in processed foods and I believe that it, along with corn syrup, are 2 of the biggest reasons why processed foods are directly contributing to the obesity crisis.  It sucks because soy is found in so many products, which is why I try to avoid them all together.  Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now.

11. I have a terrible sweet tooth, which is a total contradiction to #10, but eating healthy helps me control my sugar cravings.  I love M&Ms and chocolate, but I only like chocolate if it has some crunch to it (like with almonds or peanuts, or in the case of the M&Ms the candy coating).  I also don't care for chocolate cake or ice cream - I prefer vanilla when it comes to those.  I'm so weird. :)

Here are the 11 questions that Anna had for me:

1. Best childhood memory
This isn't a specific memory, but I grew up in the country and we had a couple acres in our backyard.  I loved making tree houses with my friends and playing outside all day long.  Ah, those were the days.

2. What is your dream job?
Just a couple years ago, my answer would've been way different.  Now my dream job would be to either blog full time or be a fitness consultant and help people become stronger and healthier through nutrition and fitness!

3. Why did you start blogging?
I kind of mentioned it above, but after I tore my ACL I could no longer do any of the physical activities that I would normally do in the evenings after work.  I was bored and needed something to keep me occupied.  A couple friends always complimented my outfits and said how cool it would be if I had a fashion blog.  I originally planned on doing a fitness and fashion combo blog, but in the end decided to just concentrate on fashion.  I'm grateful to my friends that encouraged me to start the blog and how supportive they've been of me.

4. How long have you been blogging?
I started blogging in late December of last year, so about 8 months now.

5. What is your favorite food?
I love pasta!  I crave it a ton now that I'm pregnant, and I'm always happy to give in to that craving. :)

6. What is your favorite app on your phone?
This is a tough one!  Currently, I would have to say that it's my pregnancy app called "What to Expect."  It gives me little tidbits each day about my pregnancy and shows how big the baby is and what is currently developing on him/her.  It's really fun.

7. What is one beauty item you can't live without?
I would say cover up.  I get insecure about the blemishes on my face and have to at least have cover up on if I'm going out of the house.  I hate it, but it's something I can't get over.

8. Are you a splurge or save kind of girl?
I have gone through phases of both, but overall I would say I'm a save kind of girl, especially now that I can't buy normal clothes anymore!  And I'm saving up to splurge on the baby (although is it considered splurging if it's stuff you need?).  I'm a little nervous at how expensive babies are ~ especially if it's a girl, because who can say no to those adorable little outfits?!

9. Who is your favorite celebrity?
Oh my gosh, I am such a nerd... my favorite celebrity (promise not to laugh ok?) is Tom Hiddleston.  I'm not one of those fangirls at all, but I thought he was brilliant as Loki and is adorable with his charming British accent whenever I hear him do interviews.

10. What type of music do you like?
I love alternative/alternative rock music.  I have Sirius XM radio in my car and AltNation is definitely the most played.  I have a soft spot for disco music as well.  Their music was so fun back in the day!

11. If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
I would probably say somewhere in Colorado.  I love the mountains and skiing and an active life outdoors ~ all perfect for living in Colorado.  Maybe someday I will retire in a log cabin in the mountains. :)

Those were fun questions to answer!  Now, here are the blogs that I nominate for the Liebster Award:

Here are your questions, ladies!

1. Who is your biggest fashion inspiration?

2. Why did you start blogging?

3. Where would you travel for your dream vacation?

5. What are your 3 favorite phone apps?

6. What is your favorite fashion accessory?

8. What is something on your bucket list?

9. What are your favorite and least favorite of the current fashion trends?

10. What quote inspires you the most and why?

11. Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

Striped Maxi

Well, as I suspected in earlier posts, I finally had to cave in and buy some maternity clothes over the weekend.  I only got a couple things, and I know I will have to get more soon.  I'm still trying to get the most out of my current closet though and holding out as long as possible before I actually wear any of the maternity clothes I bought.  I don't know why I am being so weird about it.  Haha.  Anyways, before I feature any of the maternity clothes, here is another maxi dress that is a great transition piece that will hopefully last me through most of the pregnancy.

What I'm Wearing
Maxi Dress ~ WHBM (similar)
Cardigan ~ Limited (similar)
Necklace ~ Shop Lately
Bracelets ~ Stella & Dot and Henri Bendel
Clutch ~ Limited (cute option here)

Week 18 Update

Holy cow, I can't believe I'm over 18 weeks already!  I'll be halfway there in less than 2 weeks.  Insane to think about!  We scheduled the gender ultrasound for the second week of September, so we will have that exciting news to share in just a few weeks! :)

I was planning on wearing a cute outfit for this pic, but after we got home from Marty's volleyball game (which I ended up playing with them at the end), I didn't feel like changing.  And this outfit really shows just how big my bump is getting.  Sometimes I feel like regular clothes appear to minimize my bump (not that I'm complaining).  It's all out there here in these athletic clothes though, haha.  I did mention in my last post that the baby is currently doubling in size and so I'm not too surprised that my belly seems to be doing the same!

One weird thing that I was not expecting ~ my stomach feels hard!  I thought it would be kind of squishy, haha.  Also, it seems the pregnancy hormones wanted to mess with my skin again.  The nice clear skin that I had last week is broken out again. :(  Hopefully it is only temporary!

TST: Mad About Plaid

It's been awhile since I've posted a Thrift Style Thursday post!  Between the new job and my expanding waistline, it's been a little difficult to find time and clothes that fit the themes, ha.  Since I found out I was pregnant, I haven't let myself buy anything that I couldn't wear with a bigger belly.  So I missed a few weeks since I didn't have anything for the TST themes.  I've only bought 2 maxi dresses and a maxi skirt since May.  It's been difficult, but good in the long run.  However, I really think it's about time to start looking into maternity wear.

These pants aren't thrifted but I got them on clearance for about $15 at The Limited (to be honest I was surprised they still fit) and the top is from Ross.  Since the top is loose it almost hides the bump!

Oh hey, there's the bump ;-)

What I'm Wearing
Top ~ Ross
Pants ~ Limited
Shoes ~ Steve Madden
Necklace ~ Park Lane
Bracelets ~ Stella & Dot, Guess, and WHBM
Bag ~ Kate Spade

#MonthlyMani: Romance in Bloom

Happy hump day, friends! This is the second edition of the Monthly Mani and this month's theme is Romance in Bloom.  When I think of romance, I think of soft pinks and flowers.  I decided to stick with 2 shades of pink and do a split color design on my nails.

The Supplies:
OPI Mimosas for Mr. & Mrs.
OPI Top Coat
Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Hardener (for base coat)
Painters Tap
Scissors

First I applied the base coat and the Tutti Frutti Tonga color (the darker pink).

Next, I cut the painters tape to small pieces to block a diagonal half of each nail so I could paint the other half in the lighter pink color (Mimosas for Mr & Mrs).

2nd color applied.

Then I removed the tape.  I've used masking tape in the past and every once in awhile it would strip part of the base coat before so I decided to try painters tape this time.  I was almost successful.  Part of the base coat did peel off on one of my nails (grrrr).  I probably just needed to be more careful when I removed the tape.

I added the top coat and ta-da! Pretty, romantic nails. :)

Check out how the other lovely ladies interpreted this month's theme!

Weeks 16 and 17: Embracing the Bump!

Since I missed last week's update, here's a look at the last 2 weeks.  I can no longer hide the bump.  My pants are getting tighter every day and I know it won't be long before I'll have to try the rubber band trick.  I need to find some long shirts or a band for my pants if I do that.

I started a new job on Monday, and the only unfortunate part is that I have to wear business casual Monday through Thursday (I could wear jeans everyday at my prior job) and almost none of my dress pants fit anymore!  They have a lot less stretch than jeans. :-/  So the plan is to wear dresses until I figure out this rubber band thing with my dress pants.  I'm really excited about my new job other than that though!  I now have my own office and only have to work half days on Fridays!  Woohoo!

In other pregnancy news, I now have to deal with going to the bathroom more often!  I didn't notice much of a difference until last week.  I've been having to get up during the night which really stinks and makes me feel more tired in the morning.  Also, it's not too often, but every once in awhile I will feel like I have to go literally 2 minutes after I went.  Sorry if that is TMI, hehe. #pregnancyproblems

In better news, I have much more energy and have been more consistent with working out.  My skin is looking a thousand times better than it did just a few weeks ago too, which makes me very happy.

The baby is supposed to double in size in the next few weeks, so I'm a little nervous about how that's going to go!  I'll be lathering up my stomach in lotion and shea butter and cocoa butter to do my best to prevent stretch marks!  Haha.  :)

Purple Maxi Dress

I haven't wanted to commit to buying any maternity clothes yet, but I know that time is quickly coming!  I found a couple of maxi dresses when we visited the outlet mall in San Marcos a couple weekends ago.  The comfortable, stretchy material makes maxi dresses ideal for pregnancy and this one should hopefully fit my belly as it gets bigger.

This dress is sleeveless, so I added a blazer to dress it up and make it work appropriate.

The dress without the jacket:

3-Year Anniversary

Today is a great day ~ it is my 3-year wedding anniversary!  My hubby and I took a spontaneous trip to Austin this past weekend to celebrate.  We took the dogs with us and it was a lot of fun hiking with them around the city.

Here are some of my favorite shots from our big day.  My wedding colors were black, white and red (with a couple splashes of purple thrown in) and my theme was polka dots.  :)

He is so handsome :)

The cake was a little untraditional, as was the cake topper (we love football and played on a flag football team together!)

The bouquet toss was brutal ;-)

These photos were taken by the amazing Lacy over at More Than An Image.
